America Connect was formed to bring the same advanced digital communications to
the rural / ex-urban communities that are readily available in major
metropolitan areas. This is commonly known as the "digital divide". Our goal at
America Connect is to bridge the digital divide and become the source for
connecting rural America with wireless broadband Internet access and backhaul
transport using the most advanced technologies available.
Formed in 1999 from industry veterans with
extensive experience in fixed wireless and carrier class
telecommunications networks, America Connect provides
advanced broadband access and transport solutions to
consumers, businesses, and the wireless mobile operators
that serve in Tier 2-4 communities.
America Connect has unique, patented
techniques for addressing these underserved communities and
through its commercial relationships with major tower
companies in the United States has the ability to establish
points of presence (POPs) at over 37,000 unique tower
locations in the United States.
In 2002 America Connect received a grant
from North Carolina’s Rural Internet Access Authority (RIAA)
to help make this vision a reality. With the backing of the
State, major telecom concerns, and industry leaders America
Connect will be operating several pilot programs in North
Carolina to refine technical aspects of the system, tune its
service offering, and gauge customer demand in different
areas.
In order to achieve the desired service
reliability, system stability, and cost targets America
Connect will utilize the FCC’s licensed frequency bands.
Using licensed frequencies allows the use of a higher power
level thus significantly increasing the system’s reach and
insuring our customers the service quality and reliability
they have come to expect from broadband services. America
Connect’s novel use of wireless transport for the middle and
last mile allow a broadband service offering that is cost
effective, high-speed, and can be deployed in communities
where the population centers may be located over a
geographically diverse area. A licensed wireless service
offering breaks the mold when it comes to broadband, it can
be rapidly deployed where wired service offerings are at a
distinct cost and service disadvantage.
It is America Connect’s vision to utilize its advanced
demographic modeling technology to replicate the successes
of the pilot program in rural and ex-urban communities
across a wide geographic area. Our mission is to bring cost
effective broadband voice, data, and video to currently
underserved communities. With the help of federal, state,
and local governments we can make bridging the digital
divide a business reality.
